My travel buddy and I started off planning this trip, and booked our air tickets in March 2016, from Singapore Airlines at a reasonable price of $687.90 per person including taxes and surcharges.
It was a midnight flight departing at 12.10pm (SGT) and we landed in Incheon International Airport at 7.45am (KST). We immediately bought our T-money card (Korea version of ez-link card) at the convenience store called CU which cost 4000won.
I have gotten my Cashbee card (another form of T-money card) for free when I purchased a unlimited data sim card from Mobileu and collected it before departing from Singapore. The sim card is unlimited data for 10 days, costing $45 after discount. It is operating with Olleh service and has had worked perfectly through out our whole trip.
As my travel buddy will be doing the navigation and contacting our airbnb hosts for the trip, I was fine without a data sim card as I could use her personal hotspot when needed.
However if both parties prefer to have internet network access on their phones at all times, it is better to get a wifi egg from Changi recommends, choose the unlimited data option for the router if you are planning to travel to a lot of places which need navigation.
After we have top up our T-money cards, we proceed to board the All stop Train to Gimpo Int’l Airport where we will take our domestic flight to Jeju. Follow the signs which can be found in English, to reach the platform as shown in the photo below.
We could only checked in our luggage 40 mins before our flight departure time so we decided to insert our korea data sim card during our free time. We followed the clear instructions given on a piece of paper which came along with the sim card. We got our internet service and started using it to navigate and gather information.
Not to my friend’s surprise, our flight to Jeju got delayed by 25 mins. We booked Jeju Air departure time at 12.25pm, which got delayed till 12.50pm and we landed in Jeju around 2pm.
We booked all our accommodations through airbnb. For our Jeju accomodation, it was Hotel Aroha, and the address is 382-31 Seongsan-ri HOTEL AROHA Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do 699-900 South Korea.
We took bus 100 in front of gate 2 outside Gimpo Int’l Airport and change to bus 701 at the Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal. We had a hard time finding the bus terminal, please remember to pay attention when the bus stops in front of the bus terminal which will look like the photo below.
Both of us came to a conclusion that our Jeju accommodation is the best out of all three as the bed was good, the toilet is the biggest, with nice toiletries. There was no breakfast provided but it was fine with us.
We settled down and went out for dinner near our accommodation at around 6pm, the sky will start to turn completely dark around 630pm which is earlier compared to Singapore.
Our dinner was simple but warm and cosy at a ramen restaurant managed by a couple. It was nice and the black pork was awesome.
